Ski Insurance

What is Ski Insurance?
Ski insurance provides customers with travel insurance for their ski or snowboard trip, and is one of the most specialised forms of travel insurance sold. Ski insurance provides customers with protection while they are skiing, and on their trip in general, and is one of the most important things a customer must organise before going on a ski or snowboard holiday.

Why do I need ski insurance?
There are two main reasons why you need ski insurance. If you leave the UK, you should take out travel insurance of some kind, protecting yourself against medical bills, travel cancellation, accommodation problems and loss and theft of luggage and belongings. On top of this, ski resorts are some of the most dangerous places to go on holiday, and the nature of skiing and snowboarding mean the risk of injury is so much greater than a beach holiday or city break.

Ski insurance provides specialist travel insurance for your ski trip, and gives you extra medical bills cover, with the added risk of injury in mind, as well as providing specialist cover for your ski equipment, which is usually more expensive than the usual things you would take on holiday.

How does ski insurance protect me?
When you take out ski insurance, you are taking out a policy which will provide you with health insurance abroad. Whilst in the UK many people are used to receiving free health treatment from the NHS, as soon as you go abroad, that free service stops, and some countries charge for all health treatments, however big or small. With skiing and snowboarding involving hurtling down a slippery slope with little more for protection that goggles and a woolly hat, injuries are frequent, and with a £10,000 charge for a customer with a broken bone, and the subsequent operation needed, and a £100,000 charge for a customer spending a week in intensive care, many people cannot afford not to have ski insurance.

Your ski insurance policy will also provide specialist insurance for your ski or snowboard equipment, protecting it in resort when you are not wearing it, from theft or damage, something that many standard travel insurance policies will not cover because of their individual item value limit.

As with most travel insurance policies, you ski insurance will also provide you with compensation for cancelled or severely delayed flights, and pay for alternate accommodation if yours is closed, cancelled or double booked.
